Day 7 and 8

This maybe my shortest post ever. Some might be saying thank goodness. Keep in mind I will write more later, you are not off the hook yet. Ha!

Reason for short post? I don't want to fall behind. I spent the day getting ready to go out of town for another week. This includes having to Feng Shui the house, (Don't judge it works.) Packing, and now shopping for food for the week. And finally driving to our destination.

This doesn't answer the question of why a short blog? Huh guess I wasn't as clear as I thought. It's been a very busy day and I have a HUGE meeting tomorrow! Good luck? Oh thank you so much.

So here we go.

So tomorrow I am all caught up and will be more thorough with calories and fat. Oh also 2 things have been brought to my attention. 1 not everyone is vegetarian. ( I know I was shocked too.) Second Recipes have been requested. So starting tomorrow I will not only include calories consumed and burned, but also equivalent meat and dairy choices and recipes and or instruction.
Sorry about that. Totally a self involved over site.
Huh, Not short at all!

Day 6 Family outings

Yesterday was not one of my better days. In the hurricane that is our lives I found it very difficult to maintain a healthy life style. Yesterday is what I call the family drive by day. Since we have moved about 400 miles away from our families we find ourselves in the predicament of having to visit as many loved ones as we can in one day. Though it is always fun to see everyone, the obstacle we face is eating.
For one reason or another, many Americans find that socializing and food are one in the same. Our families become like drug pushers with food. “ Come on just try some.” “ Have some more.” “ oh come on a little more can't hurt.” And just like a junkie, we know what is good for us, We have a plan to stay clean, and then we crumble like the cookie that was pushed on us. Don't get me wrong Our families are wonderful. We could just say no ( In theory ) . Yet we don't. We find our selves eating at every stop we make. So here is the run down of yesterday gorge fest.

Breakfast with Dad.
Hummus
Pita bread
Tomato's
Cucumbers
1 cup of coffee
2 glasses of water
It started out right, I still had conviction, strength, a waste line.

Snack at grandma's
6 Gingersnaps
8 oz of pomegranate and blueberry juice
It's just juice and cookies. Plus it's grandma! No one says no to grandma.

Lunch with Mike's Grandma, brother, sister-in-law, and dad
Apple walnut salad
French fries
Ice tea
2 glasses of water
Salad good, fries bad. That makes it a wash, right? Oh the tea,,,ummm errrrrr. We have a long drive ahead of us. Not enough water? Ah refer to previous excuse.

Snack at Mike's grandma's
Wafer cookie
1 glass of lemonade
Lemon counts as fruit right? And the cookie, well that soaks up all the citrus acid.

Dinner on the way home
Bean burrito
Deep fried peppers
A few sips of water
What the heck, I had already blown it.

It was not my best attempt at healthy living, but tomorrow is another day. A really good work out can make up for a lot. Now where is my Pajama's.

There is a bright spot to all this, Mike did WAAAAAAYYYYY worse!

I was going to object to the way worse, but I guess its true. In addition to Honeybunny's list, I had several snicker doodles ( in fact you might say oodles and oodles of snicker doodles – and yes, that is a real song) and a small bowl of Snickers ice cream. I have not been exercising, and feel like crap. As Honeybunny and I discussed today, you never feel bad or have regrets after getting some exercise.

Mike's disclaimer:
I tend to get headaches from certain foods that contain dyes and MSG. We ate at R R and about an hour later Had a very intense headache. I had suspected that they have unhealthy additive in the very seasoned food before; however I gave them the another try. I am now sure of it. Just beware if you have any food allergies, You may want to avoid this particular restaurant.

Day 5

Day 5

I missed a day. I have been really busy and have had a horrible headache for 2 days.
I am feeling better, thanks for asking. I still have done very well considering we have been living out of suitcases all week. ( the hotel does have a dresser, I was just being dramatic.)
Let me address the headache first. I thought maybe it was because of stress, then thought it was the flu, leprosy, or any other malady I have seen on Discovery channel. After the hypochondria episode, I finally figured it out today, I had given up caffeine for this project, I was going through withdraws!
See how committed to this I am. I gave up Caffeine as previously discussed , alcohol, crack, heroine, cocaine, and hallucinogenics. OK not really, I only gave up caffeine and alcohol, those things are so bad for you!

I have been eating most of my meals in the hotel so I not only save money but control what I am consuming.
A quick recap

Breakfast
Grape nuts
Rice milk
1 Liter of water

Snack
Granola bar
1 liter of water

Lunch
Baked potato
Salsa
1 Liter of water

Snack
Fruit snack
1 Liter of water

Dinner
For this we did go out with some friends, But we went to the Soup Plantation so it was not that bad.
I had
Large salad, with tons of veggies and mustard dressing
Bean and brown rice soup
1 piece of sour dough bread
and about 2 table spoons of apple cobbler.
Hey, I am not made of stone!
1 pt of water

We went to a baseball game after dinner. Mike and I took the stairs instead of the elevator just for a little extra exercise.
On the subject of exercise, I usually run, but this does not mean that I believe running is for everyone.
I happen to really enjoy it. I have no problem running out in public, listening to my head phone and singing out loud. I have made a fool of myself more times than I can count.
However, any form of exercise is good as long as you are moving. If what you are doing is making you miserable, find something else, just keep moving. (not you Mike, you are running!)

As for natural health, I tried apple shampoo for my headache. I read an article that the scent of apple can relieve a headache, and you know you can believe everything on the web. In this case it does work. Though my headache was not completely gone it did alleviate it a great deal. So get a headache sniff an apple.
And now it is time for the gorgeous, talented, master of one liners, MIKEY! U.mmm, there is a hydro belt I want.)
Why thank you honeybunny. I had a bowl of grapenuts with rice milk. Lunch was a veggie sandwich (no cheese) from subway. Dinner was at Soup Plantation with friends from work. I had a great time, as well as a delicious brownie & ice cream for dessert. Man I can't wait until Laurin gives up the crack, cocaine and hallucinogenics.

There you have it. What it is I am not sure.

Day 3

It has been a whirlwind couple of day. I am not really sure what that expression means but it sounds cool. Mike would say “We have been busier than a bee hive during honey season.” He turned 40 and decided to use old man saying. Don't try to understand them, it makes him happy.

Even with all that has been going on we (I) still have been able to keep it healthy, with one exception. On the way to our destination we did stop at a fast food restaurant. Not because we were hungry, but because I drink a lot of water nowadays. Now in my defense, ( I will say that often ) I think it is rude to use the restroom in a restaurant and not buy something. So I ordered a regular hamburger, no meat, no mayo, and no cheese. If you are wondering what is left, it includes lettuce, tomato, pickles, and ketchup. Don't judge, it's pretty good. Mike on the other hand had a egg and cheese biscuit. So neither of us did well, but I was better!

Here is the recap of the daily consumption.
Breakfast

24 oz of fresh veggie juice. Cucumber, 4 carrots, 4 stalks celery, bell pepper, tomato, and spinach.
1liter of water ( this is why we stopped for fast food )
meatless burger - All ready discussed.
1liter of water

Snack
granola bar
1 liter of water

Lunch
Baked potato
1 liter of water

Snack
Fruit snack – juvenile I know, but I find them to be very tasty
1 liter of water

Dinner
Home made Veggie soup
beans
tortilla
12 oz of water. ( give me a break it was almost bed time.)

For exercise I ran 2 miles on the hotel treadmill

For natural spa treatment, ummm, errrrrr, uhhhhh, I swear I will find something soon.
There is my day. Mike's is a bit different, but I'll let him tell you.

Oh I need help. Breakfast: egg and cheese biscuit (apparently, Laurin did better) Lunch: cheese omelet and fries. Dinner: quesadilla. I should not be allowed to order this kind of stuff, I feel awful. I guess happens once in a while, but I will do better tomorrow.

Type to you tomorrow!

Day 2 kind of

You may ask yourself ( hey that reminds me of a song!) why I would start a blog and then not post on day 2. I do have a reason and if I stall enough with this rambling I might actually come up with one.

I completely forgot when I started this blog that we were going out of town on business for about two weeks with a day in between at home. Frustrated with starting a natural living project and then having to live in a hotel room for two weeks, I was trying to decide if it was a good time for this. My more rational half (Mike) suggested to me that it may be a great time for this. If I could continue even when out of town it could add a more interesting aspect to this project. So I decided he was right. ( Never, Never, Never, tell him I said that!)
So we spent most of last night preparing soup and other food to take to the hotel with us. Also we decided to bring our own laundry soap, games, water, and grooming products so nothing would have to be purchased while out of town. Wow who knew I'd give money saving advice as well?

We made it to our destination today, and even with a few extra bags of the previously mentioned items, it was fairly easy. The hotel has a fridge and a microwave so we may survive yet.

I brought my running shoes and very cute running clothes. This is important if you want to look like you know what you are doing. My mp3 player, and my running log. It seems as if I have the exercise and nutrition sections of my project covered. I am lacking in idea's on natural spa treatments while living out of suitcases, but I am determined to make this work.

There you have my lame excuse, but never fear I will not ( unless something really good comes on TV) miss another day.

As a side note I have decided to post in the morning, about the day before. Not because it is a better idea, but because after 9 pm my brain completely shuts down. I have enough trouble keeping a thought in my head with out this added obstacle. That said, see you in the morning.

And now, the man's point of view...
I was right, I was right, I was right, oh yeah, I was right.

Day 2 kind of

Day 1 again

I need to start this post by introducing to you Mike. He is the love of my life and my little lab mouse. He is also doing this project with me. ( begrudgingly ) We ( I ) thought a mans point of view could be useful, and he loves me and is willing to do most crazy idea I come up with. So with the rambling introduction done I can recap about yesterday.

I should begin by telling you, we are vegetarians; However this is not going to turn into a soapbox blog. I am just letting that one reader know because some of the things we eat may come off as a bit strange. That said here we go.

Yesterday my total calorie count for the day was about 1251. Mikes was 1790, because as he likes to point out he burns more and therefor needs more calories than I do. What ever!
This calorie count was for three meals and two snack. Just encase you are curious what we ate I will list the items. For those who are not you can practice the art of ignoring things.

Breakfast:
Grape Nuts- about a cup, I don't measure anything. I am not even sure I know how.
Soy milk- maybe a ½ cup
Then I took time to watch the cereal expand
blackberries-8 or so
Black coffee- Give me a break, I know it's not good for me but I am a work in progress.
1 liter of water

Snack:
Granola bar
1 liter of water

Lunch:
Nut loaf sandwich- Whole wheat bread, nut loaf ( vegetarian equivalent to meat loaf, and ketchup
Grapes- a twig full
Carrot sticks
1 liter of water

Snack:
another twig of grapes
1 liter of water

Dinner:
Baked potato and Mikes homemade salsa
1 liter of water

Again that was about 1251 calories and 1 gallon of water. I was not hungry at all, but now have a permanent residence in the bathroom. I am thinking of putting in a water cooler so I don't have to travel as much.

For exercise we rode our bikes to the lake for a picnic and to play a few games of Farkle in the great out doors. Bike ride totaled 10 miles

For the natural spa treatment did a coffee ground and sea salt body scrub. This I did measure. ( Guess I do know how.) 1 table spoon sea salt 3 table spoons of fresh caffeinated coffee grounds.

Pro: I really liked the scrub. I got the same results that I get when I use more expensive store bought scrubs

Con: It is messy. If you try it make sure to rinse your shower well after.

The mans point of view: ( Said in a deep, overly dramatic voice.)
Not worth the mess. I mean really, coffee stains in the shower. Blah.

Thank you Mike for that in depth review.

There you have it , day 1.

Day 1 continued

I reread my blog from last night now that I am awake and refreshed. (Really I am just up and looking Frightening.)I found that the log was horrible, wordy and unorganized so I deleted it and I am rewriting it. Heck I wouldn't read a blog that long! So I will repost this morning

Day 1

I'm sick of it!

What is she sick of? ( you ask yourself )

I am sick of being bombarded with adds about weight loss programs, diet pills, thigh away creams, gastric bypass, botox, miracle wrinkle serum, luscious hair care products, mud from exotic lands, salt from non living seas, color my hair goop, whiten my teeth gel, tanning spray, hair removal, hair thickener, sleep aids, and how to relieve stress......Gee what the heck would I be stressed about? Wow we must be an ugly species!

So, I'm DONE! I am going back to the basics. Healthy diet, exercise out in the real sunshine ( with sun sceen, I am not totally insane.) Plenty of water, natural cleaners, grooming treatments, and medical care.

Why am I doing this blog? I am glad you asked. Partly for motivation for myself and anyone else who needs a little motivation, partly for fun, but mostly because there has to be others like me who are tired of being told we are not good enough, but we can be if we buy......

My intentions are to try out new and natural methods for cleaning, grooming, exercise, and entertainment ( such as reading , board game, dinner with friends and family, ect.) I will try something new every day and blog about it on here with my humble opinion of it. If you have any opinions, ideas, or tips please add it.
